Local Government

Though attempts were made in Catonsville's past to have Catonsville become an incorporated municipality, it remains to this day simply a community and is not self-governed. Instead, Catonsville falls under the local jurisdiction of Baltimore County, and along with the residents of the many other communities in Baltimore County, Catonsville's residents are represented at the local level by an elected County Council and County Executive, along with a number of executive appointed department heads and their respective departments. Baltimore County is divided into seven Councilmanic Districts each represented by one elected Council member. Catonsville is located completely within Councilmanic District 1 which encompasses the southwestern portion of Baltimore County.
